Meet the team: 5 Minutes with David

08 October 2025

At SRVO, we are trusted by our clients to help them protect their assets for the long-term.

David Flack, Director of Risk & Compliance is leading an exceptional team of risk assessors and H&S experts in delivering the highest standard of compliance services across SRVO’s sizeable, UK-wide client base, as well as valued partners within the Odevo Group of businesses.

“My role is to grow our team and capabilities to provide a comprehensive range of services that meet the evolving needs of all our clients across the residential and commercial space, ensuring they comply with the vast array of health and safety and building safety needs.

Which aspects of your work are you most proud of?

I’m proud to have led high-performing teams in delivering a wide range of Risk & Compliance services, from risk assessment and Building Safety to training and policy development, across a broad spectrum of developments and client types.

Through my career I have also been fortunate to work with industry leaders in helping to shape the future of the sector.  “As part of The Property Institute’s Health & Safety Committee, I’ve been able to contribute to driving positive industry change at scale, accelerating Building Safety best practices across the sector.”

Which of our values resonates most with you, and how do you live it day-to-day?

“Embedding Building Safety standards and best practices in compliance remains one of the most urgent and pressing issues of our time, and that is certainly too big a challenge to solve individually, so collaboration is absolutely needed.”

But in truth, all of SRVO’s values are important in my day-to-day.

Integrity is the cornerstone of good Health & Safety management, while transparency is hugely important to ensuring a clear and open approach to dealing with issues. Finally we have innovation, and it would be short-sighted to simply accept the norm,  especially given everything we have learned in recent years, and so I believe creative ways of dealing with complex issues will nearly always be helpful.

Describe your journey into property — what first drew you to the industry?

I came into the property sector through the Health & Safety angle, initially working in the retail sector.

“I’m a firm believer that everything can be fascinating if you look at it through the right lens!”

Risk and compliance in the built environment is no different. What might seem ‘dull’ from the outside becomes much more interesting and nuanced as you delve deeper into the discipline.  Ultimately the goal here is to make sure that people are safe in their homes and workplaces. And that is something truly worthwhile to strive for.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting out in this sector, what would it be?

This industry is the epitome of ‘how do you eat an elephant? …. one forkful at a time’

It’s such a huge and varied industry that it takes time to build up a decent understanding of the technical challenges and nuances. Look for those around you who can support and give guidance, and as you learn from them, just be sure to pass that support and guidance later on, to help the next generation grow and thrive.

With an evolving legislative environment continually shaping the advice that SRVO provide to clients, David is now focused on growing the team and advancing SRVO’s capabilities, expertise and services in meeting these important new standards and setting a new legacy for the built environment.
